Winning the New Light exhibition....and what's next.

I decided to enter the New Light Exhibition due to the fact that it was for Northern artists only. Being able to show work in the beautiful Bowes Museum, Mercer and Panter and Hall galleries made it very enticing! Usually all other competitions are based in London so it made a nice change.

I was pretty shocked to win the print-makers award as the standard of work was incredibly high. I enjoyed talking to Norman Ackroyd RA CBE about my work on the night of the prize giving, he was very complimentary which was a great confidence boost. I haven't had any feedback about my work since I was studying at the Royal College of Art back in the nineties, and for me, this made the exhibition. I try to enter at least two prestigious competitions a year as I believe being judged by the best artists and experts in the business is a great way to get noticed and move your profile just a little bit further forward.

Being offered the solo exhibition at The Zillah Bell Gallery will be a fantastic opportuntity to show my work to a different audience. They have a fantastic reputation and catalogue of great artists showing there. As well as my show 'Piecing the landscape', they exhibited and promoted my work at the Hepworth Print Fair last weekend and have asked me to be part of 'The Contemporary Printmakers' exhibition in May. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to be showing alongside Royal Academicians.
